Oil on birch panels. 2018. 65" x 13" x 2.5"
Minimalist, color field abstract panel constructions start as individual birch ply pieces painted, burnished and drawn upon with oil, inspired by the people, buildings, trees, cars and eighteen wheelers that share our space throughout the day.
Later, those representative, disparate pieces are reconsidered and reimagined, and then constructed to create a new, sometimes harmonious, sometimes discordant assemblage of color, image and line.
Michael Larry Simpson is a multi-style painter who works in oil and latex on wood in both minimalist abstract and concept-driven styles. Simpson studied Studio Art and Art History at the College of William and Mary in Virginia and the Art Students League and School of Visual Arts in New York City.
